Piece for the 2017 Typeforce show, printed on plexiglass.
The Great Divide

THE GREAT DIVIDE

For the 2017 installment of Typeforce, we were moved to create a piece around the 2016 election and subsequent political turmoil. Per our artist statement:

The current political climate is unlike any we've seen in the United States. We the people have been split further and further into camps of “us” versus “them,” fueled by deliberately false and intentionally divisive news. Ours is a less than perfect union, and rather than reaching out to those we know and love, it seems as though social media algorithms have only further deepened The Great Divide. The past year has thrown so much of our American experience into question. We've found ourselves debating pure fiction, accepting corruption as commonplace, rebranding hate groups as “alt.” We seem to share no common space with those who do not share our beliefs, and we are building thicker and thicker divides to wall ourselves off. When did we become so divided, and view each other as data points?

This piece truly was a labor of love, and a studio-wide collaboration. Some 30-odd screen set-ups, 12 panes of plexiglass, a whole mess of pine, dozens upon dozens of fake news headlines, and one Cheeto president made this thing happen. We wrote a full write-up of the process of this piece on Medium, and have made limited edition art prints available in our store. 50% of all proceeds from the print will be donated to the ACLU, who continue to fight for the rights of every American.
